The Atmospheric Processes research cluster investigates how physical processes interact across scales to form clouds and modulate precipitation patterns in East Antarctica with particular attention to the occurrence and sequencing of weather events with a strong and persistent impact on the surface mass balance.

Field work will be conducted at Neumayer-III and Troll stations through a coordinated effort across six Swiss research groups, combining expertise in cloud and aerosol microphysics, boundary layer processes, large-scale dynamics, and in-situ and remote-sensing observations supported by advanced multiscale modelling. Such a collaborative effort is indispensable for understanding how precipitation patterns evolve with the ongoing warming of the Antarctic.
